Driving posture can either have a positive or negative effect on your body, getting this right will be beneficial to minimise stress on your body, especially if you spend large amounts of time in the car.

  • Sit with your bottom right against the car seat and avoid slouching
  • Keep even weight, avoid leaning to one side, i.e. having your weight on your arm rest
  • Avoid forward head posture, (as though you are sitting at a computer)
  • Don’t sit on your wallets as this causes a tilt in the pelvis and strains the lower back
  • Adjust the lumbar support, if you don’t have this option support the small of your back with a rolled up towel or a small pillow
  • Find a balanced distance between you and the wheel, over reaching can create a negative change in posture
  • Avoid rolling the hip outwards when not changing gears
  • Keep calm and keep relaxed –tight muscles will not help your posture
