Should I arrive early for my first appointment?

It’s advisable to arrive a 5-10 minutes early for your first appointment, as you will need to fill out initial paperwork.

 

How long will my treatment take?

Your initial consultation may last up to one hour. This will enable your osteopath to take a thorough case history, examine and diagnose your problem, and provide you with a full treatment. One hour allows us to begin to treat you in a way that makes a difference.

Follow-up treatments are shorter; depending on your condition allow 30 minutes.

 

How will treatment affect my current gym or exercise program?

Your Osteopath will recommend do one of the following: Incorporate simple exercises into your routine or significantly modify your routine until your condition is resolved.

 

What should I wear?

Depending on the area of your body requiring treatment, your osteopath may ask you to undress to your underwear. It’s important that you feel comfortable, so you may want to wear loose pants or bring a pair of shorts to change into. You will be covered up with towels or alternatively patient gowns are provided.

 

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments you need depends on the condition and person we are treating. We aim to keep your appointments to a minimum. Generally you would expect to see changes in your symptoms after one or two visits and acute cases may resolve with only a few treatments. However, some long-term or chronic conditions may require a longer course of treatment.

 

Does Medicare cover Osteopathy?

Generally no however people with chronic health conditions may be eligible for partial funding for up to 5 osteopathic treatments on Medicare’s Enhanced Primary Care plan. Your GP will need to assess your eligibility for this program, and provide you with a referral for osteopathic treatment.

 

Can I claim Osteopathy on my private health insurance?
